Meet the Team

Joel R. Wolfe, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who has served West Michigan since 1993. His practice reflects a broad orthopedic focus, with special expertise in multiple areas of treatment, including knee and hip arthritis. His adult reconstructive experience includes hip, knee as well as partial knee replacements and revision procedures.  The maturity and experience he has gained during his more than two decades in orthopedics allows him to evaluate the latest trends in treatment and determine which may provide patients with the most successful outcomes.

Following medical school at Emory University, Dr. Wolfe returned to Michigan for his residency training at Wayne State University’s Detroit Medical Center, where he scored among the top five percentile of the nation on his specialty boards. Board Certified in orthopedic surgery, Dr. Wolfe is involved in the following professional organizations: Michigan Orthopaedic Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Ottawa County Medical Society and Michigan State Medical Society. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Dr. Wolfe regularly attends specialized surgical labs and training courses to stay current on all new protocols and procedures, while remaining up-to-date on all required CME material.

 
 

Jon D. Hop, MD, specialized in hip and knee surgery. Dr. Hop’s orthopedic specialization began with his residency at the University of Iowa, which is consistently recognized as one of the top orthopedic hospitals and residency programs in the nation. There he received broad training in all aspects of orthopedics with the leading surgeons in their fields. Dr. Hop also participated in research while in Iowa earning national and regional awards for his research and medical writing. He then attended a fellowship in total joint replacement and knee reconstruction at the world-renowned Nuffield Orthopaedics Centre at Oxford University in England. This extensive training and his experience is put into practice not only in joint replacement but also in the reconstructive treatment of injuries and diseases of cartilage, bone, ligaments, and tendons about the knee and hip. He attends frequent national meetings and continually strives to keep abreast and trained in the latest treatment techniques.

Dr. Hop is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is affiliated with the following organizations: American Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society, Ottawa County Medical Society, Michigan Orthopaedic Society and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

 
 

John Swartz, DO, in both primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, as well as joint preserving procedures such as knee arthroscopy and osteotomy. Also a specialist in general orthopedic surgery, he uses the newest techniques and leading-edge technologies to treat patients. Dr. Swartz centers his practice on providing advanced conservative and surgical care for hip and knee disorders. Additionally, he provides expert treatment for a variety of subspecialties, including:

  • Minimally invasive posterior and anterior approaches for total hip arthroplasty
  • Knee arthroscopy for treatment of meniscus and cartilage disorders
  • Minimally invasive, Mako robotic total and partial knee arthroplasty
  • Complex hip and knee revision surgery

After earning his bachelor’s degree in biology from Hope College in 2004, Dr. Swartz went on to receive his D.O. from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2009. He completed a five-year orthopedic surgery residency at Michigan State University, St. John Oakland Hospital, followed by a one-year fellowship in adult reconstruction at Desert Orthopedic Center in Nevada, under the direction of Todd Swanson, M.D. Dr. Swartz grew up in Richmond, Michigan and is pleased to be here in West Michigan, with his family.

 
 

Kevin Vardon, PA-C , works closely with our Orthopedic Surgeons and Sports Medicine Physicians in providing non-operative and surgical care in treating a variety of conditions within the orthopedic spectrum. He has extensive knowledge in sports medicine, fracture care and injection therapy. Kevin places a high priority on patient education by empowering the patient with knowledge of their condition, treatment options and taking the time to answer any question.
