Concussions: Keeping Your Athlete Safe

The fall sports season is underway which means hard-hitting plays during football or headers at soccer, or even a fall during that intense volleyball game. Whatever the sport may be, the importance of recognizing and properly treating concussions, especially in young athletes, continue to be an important topic.
That’s why sports medicine physician, Dr. Courtney Erickson-Adams, physical therapist Alana Garcia and speech language pathologist Eliana Stewart are teaming up to talk to you all about concussions.

About our Presenters:
Courtney Erickson-Adams, M.D. is a specially trained, board-certified sports medicine physician providing non-operative treatment options for sports-related and active lifestyle injuries including:
- Advanced management of concussions
- Fracture management
- Ultrasound guided joint injections for shoulder, knee, hip, elbow, wrist and hand
- Over-use and misuse conditions
- 3D Gait Analysis for active runners and walkers
Alana Garcia, PT, NCS, CBIS is a physical therapist who will be working with the adult population at Health Pointe. She graduate from Arcadia University with a doctorate in physical therapy, is a board certified clinical specialist in neurology and is a certified brain injury specialist.

Elaina Stewart (Peets), MS, CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist, who graduated from GVSU and has completed her Certificate of Clinical Competence. She has specialized training in the areas of pediatric feeding disorders, dysphagia, brain injury, and various other populations.
